LA MASSACRE DE NANJING

Al 1937, Japó va començar una forta invasió a Xina, i aquell mateix any, l'exèrcit japonès va entrar a Nanjing, aleshores la capital. Seguint ordres del govern, la majoria de la població es va quedar a la ciutat, i un cop el govern ja havia fugit, l'exèrcit japonès va començar una massacre contra la població civil sense precedents. Es calcula que van morir al voltant de 300.000 persones.

Avui, aprofitant que feia un plujós i que l'hem començat veient com es cremava un edifici, hem visitat el museu de la massacre. No us explicaré ni les bestieses ni la majoria de coses que he vist. No està permès fer fotos, però crec que tampoc n'hagués fet, per respecte. El que si vull comentar és com m'ha fet reflexionar. Després de veure les atrocitats que es van arribar a fer (el museu és molt gràfic i molt, molt realista. Entre altres coses, mostren les fosses comunes amb els esquelets), de llegir els testimonis reals de supervivents i de llegir altres moltes bestieses que no es podrien ni mostrar, et planteges vàries coses. La primera: per què?!?!?!

I després de reflexionar una mica sobre les guerres, les víctimes i les injustícies del món, el fet de veure i llegir casos concrets, m'ha fet pensar una mica més enllà.

Fins a quin punt és manipulable la nostra ment? fins a quin punt seríem capaços nosaltres de prémer el gallet perquè ens ho ordenen? Mil·lers de persones van morir, però també mil·lers de soldats van assassinar, violar i torturar sense escrúpols a totes aquestes persones. Tanta mala gent hi ha al món? O sóm realment tan influenciables? Sóm les persones tan dèbils que sabent el que és correcte i el que no, o tan sols sabent que la vida és un dret inalienable, tot i així seríem capaços de matar per por a les represàlies o seguint ordres gairebé com si d'un joc o una feina es tractés? Evidentment vull creure que no, però no deixa de ser sorprenent, inquietant i molt dur pensar en el que es va arribar a fer i pensar que s'ha fet tantes vegades al llarg de la història de la humanitat. D'aquest tema se n'han fet estudis, pel·lícules (vuere DAS EXPERIMENT)... Però en fi, veure el poc valor que es va donar a les vides de tota aquella gent et fa sentir petit, molt petit... Què en penseu?

NANJING MASSACRE

In 1937, Japan started the invasion of China, and that same year they entered Nanjing, back then the capital. Following the government's orders, most of the civilians stayed in the city, and once the government was already out of it, the japanese army entered the city and started un unprecedented massacre against civilians. Around 300.000 people died.

Today, taking advantage of a rainy day, and inspired by the burning building I saw in the morning... We vsited the Massacre Museum. I'm not going to tell all the atrocities I saw... It is not even allowed to take pictures there, but I think I just would have not done it anyway, for respect. What I do want to talk about though, is how it moved me. After seeing many awfull things (it's a very graphic museum. They show some of the multiple-body graves the way they found them), reading the stories of some of the survivours and reading about other so horrible things they couldn't even show, many questions arise. The first one: Why?!?!?!?!

And after thinking for a while about wars, victims and unfair events happening around the world, the fact of reading and seeing specific cases, I thought a bit further.

Till which point is our mind manipulative? Till which point would each one of us be capable of pulling the triger just because it's an order? Thousands of people died, but also thousands of soldiers assassined, slaughtered, raped those people without scruples. There's really so many bad people in this world? Or are we really so easily influenced? Are we so, so weak that even knowing what's wrong and what's right or just knowing that life is an inalienable right, even so we would be capable of killing almost as if it was part of a game or a job? I obviously want to think the answer is no, but still it's shockingly surprising, disturbing and terrifying to think about what was done and that has happened many times during the history of humanity. This sort of topic has been part of studies, movies (check DAS EXPERIMENT)... But in any case, when you see that no value was given to those people's lives, you feel small, very small...
