2. Cartell.

From Dalian we traveled to Dandong 丹东, 4 hours up north by bus that became 6. This “village” of 780 thousand inhabitants is at the border with one of the less known countries in the world: North Korea. I should say that Dandong has not much more than the border and a tiny bit of the Great Wall as main tourist attractions, apart from great seafood restaurants with even greater prices for foreign wallets. In any case, the Chinese make the most of it.
Here, the border with the neighboring country is marked by the Yalu River that ends at the Korean Bay. The only way to cross it in Dandong is through the Sino-Korean friendship bridge, built between 1937 and 1943 by the Japanese during their occupation of North Korea and the Northeast of China.
Nowadays this bridge represents the way of access of half of the Chinese exports to the neighboring country and also an access gate to those tourists who have the right visa.
It is much more noticeable, however, the “semi bridge” 100 meters downstream. It’s a stone-pillared bridge built between 1909 and 1911 that, along with the friendship bridge was bombed by American aircrafts during the Korean War. China has rebuilt its half, which is the main tourist attraction of the city. North Korea refused to rebuild it so The United States could never deny they destroyed it.
“A view from the Bridge”
Once we payed the 30-yuan ticket, we were able to walk to the end of the Chinese half of the bridge. Here I could write pages about sensations and details, but since and image is worth a 1000 words, I attach a couple visual documents with a short explanation.
1. Contrast (video)
Surrounded by secrecy, one of the most frequent speculations about North Korea is whether there is development or not. This video doesn’t give an answer to that, but offers a radical example of contrast between one of the most hidden regimes of the world and the country with the highest and fastest growth index. On one side, nothing. On the other side, lights, buildings, people and more people.
2. Sign.
Regardless the friendly relations within both countries, the warning (almost like a threat) on this sign is very clear. Some might say it warns you about falling in the river. Some others might say, stay away from North Korea...
3. Suspicious Ferris Wheel.
Apparently it hardly ever moves, and seen from  the bridge it looks rather fake. At the other border with South Korea, it is also speculated that the visible buildings at the other side of the border are fake structures built by the regime of Pyongyang in order to show development. We don’t know the truth, but the location of the Ferris Wheel, right in front of the such a touristic place in China, is suspicious.

Fem una pausa / Let's have a break

Lectors i lectores.
Salut!

Dear readers,
we're currently celebrating the national holiday here, for a whole week (no worries, I will be working next weekend to make up for it). Today, Núria and I, backpack, guide (photocopied: Lonely Planet weighs like a corpse) and camera, we leave for the North of the country. We go to Liaoning province and we start at DaLian (大连). It's only 5 days, but well deserved and that I'm sure we will really enjoy. Well then, if you don't here from me these days, it's basically because I'm not here! I'll see once I'm back.
Cheers!

How I see the crisis from "El país" (Spanish Newspaper)

Not long ago, going through several newspapers on the net, I came across a new section from "el país" ( a spanish newspaper) which I thought was pretty interesting: (pre)parados ( a word game between being educated and jobless ). There, people from my generations and those nearby, tell they're situation within the curent crisis. To summ up, the thing is thanks to the momment we lived in, we are one of the most prepared generations of the country's history and, due to this decadence periode we are going through, probably one of the most frustrated.
Some explain the precarious jobs they accept. Some others explain how impossible it is to be given an opportunity to prove you're ready and prepared. There are also those who explain that at the end, after a lot of searching, decided to emigrate... And then I thought I also wanted to participate, representing those who have always been fine living abroad and decided that wanted to learn by seeing the world, and although we always thought one day we'd be back, seeing the ituation, we don't know if we can or if we should even dare.

So I sent the letter...

Festa de Mitja Tardor / Mid-Autumn Festival /

Mid-Autumn Festival is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and Vietnamese people, dating back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty. It was first called Zhongqiu Jie (literally "Mid-Autumn Festival") in the Zhou Dynasty. The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is in September or early October in the Gregorian calendar.
However, if previously don't have this information, the festival looks to any foreigner, at least to me, like a weird break in the week, that people use to eat mooncakes (denser than marzipan) while they stare at the fireworks. The most interesting thing about the Festival is... that we need to make up for it! So to say, we had holidays from wednesday to friday, but last sunday and this weekend everyone back to work! To avoid us getting used to the word holidays... All this said, I hope you have a nice sunday! Meanwhile, I'll get back to work...

Enetring to a rented flat always carries surprises and new faces... I would be greatful though, if these new faces were neighbours asking for a bit of soya sauce (here much more common than salt), o the gas guy. It's not the case. Our new visitor, a bit too frequent lately, doesn't even ring the bell, doesn´t call in advance and, we think, comes through the window, although we haven'te verified that yet. The truth is, it´s not noisy and it never stays for too long, and maybe with time we will learn to trust it and maybe give it a name. For the time being, at nights we keep the windows closed, and we continue to expect our visits at the front door, although if this one ever rings the bell...

Tornem a començar / New Beginning

I això intento fer jo, adaptar-me al canvi, als contrastos i als extrems.

Yesterday I had three cold showers: the first one to wake up and start my day; the second the get rid of the sweat and go to work; the third to refresh myself again and get ready to go for dinner. Today I had a hot shower and while I type I sip some hot tea. In a day the temperature dropped from 35 to 18 dregrees. And that's China: an always changing country, in movement, extreme and full of contrasts. And that's what I try to do, to adapt to the change, contrasts and extremes.
So, with a double dose of Vitamin C to avoid a cold due to these temp. changes, armed with a new software to jump over the blocking systems, and with a lot of enthusiasm I start again this space that long ago I left in stand by.
And I start also from a different space. A couple months ago I left my little room at the dorms to start a new life in a shared appartment and this way go deeper in experiencing Nanjing, getting to know better the neighbourhood I live in. There for, this new beginning starts by introducing you to my new neighbourhood.
I hope you'll like it as much as I do!

HA CANVIAT / IT'S CHANGED

Tibet, with an extension of 1.200.000km2, represents almost the 12% of the chinese territory. With a avarage hight of more than 4000m, the lack of oxygen requires some aclimatation. In other words, even if you're the fittest, the first day taking to steps makes you exhausted...

As you might have seen in the pictures, it is an extraordinary region, not only for its natural beauty, but also for its cultural richness. But it is changing and it has changed a lot, and I dare to say it even if i haven't been there before. .. I won't start crticizing chinese presence in that territory for various reasons. The first one, I don't wan to go go to jail! ;) I'm kidding. No, seriously, it's a very difficult topic. China in Tibet means Roads, a train, an airport, schools and industry (and i took advantage of all that). But at what price? here is where you see tha change, chinese presence, plastic, consumerism, and of course the language. Tibetan people seem to bo trying to cling to their culture and traditions by using, for example, the temples, now very active thanks to the monks. But the quiestion is if in let's say 3 generations, tibetan will still be spoken. An although I didn't get a very good feeling about that, I can't really say that much, because I have no clue about the education system up there... Another doubt: will their spiritual leader ever be back? while he defines himself as the political leader too, the answer is no, that's for sure. What do you think?

Anyway, it was an unforgettable experienece. A place that stimulates all your sense, but that in certain moments makes you sad. And maybe even a bit more being catalan...

I vint anys després encara s'intenta tapar.
Salut!
Family, I'm back!
After days and days of frustration due to the unexpected censure of all the blogs in China, we have found a solution. But first, let me give you some feedback: we are now celebrating in China the 20th Anniversary of the massacre in Tiananmen. And even 20 years later they seem to be trying to hide the facts. It is said that the censure of all blogs among other communications means is part of this attempt to control information. All this said, after all the celebrations it should all go back to normal, but not willing to wait any longer, we found a solution! And I say "we", because thanks to the dark secrets of my hacker brother-in-law, Miquel, today I can update my Blog! At the same time, I want to thank several people, such as Lee and Curri, who offered to update the blog while it is all blocked.
So, now back on track and ready to make it up for all the lost time!
Cheers!
