PESCA AMB CORMORANS

Fascinant! Aquells que coneixeu la meva passió pels documentals entendreu perquè escric sobre aquest tema. Ho havia vist mil vegades als reportatges de National Geographic i ho trobava apassionant. És un mètode de pesca ancestral, de segles d'història. Té un punt de crueltat, tot s'ha de dir, però és molt impactant. La tècnica és la següent:

el pescador es desplaça pel riu amb una barqueta de bambú que empeny amb una canya també de bambú. L'acompanyen els seus ocells domesticats, cormorans, també anomenats corbs marins. Llavors el pescador llança un dels corbs a l'aigua. El pescador colpeja l'aigua amb el bambú per donar el tret de sortida a l'ocell que immediatament se submergeix. En menys de mig minut l'animal surt a la superfície amb un peix al coll. El punt cruel del que us parlava és que l'animal porta un cordill lligat al final del coll que li estreny l'esòfag i impedeix que es pugui empassar la captura. Llavors el pescador treu el cormoran de l'aigua i li fa vomitar el peix. És un espectacle, però a part, és apassioant veure amb quina velocitat i eficàcia pesquen aquests animals.

CORMORANT FISHING

Fascinating! Those who know my passion for documentaries will understand why I post this article. I had always seen it in National Geographic docs and I always thought it was amazing. It is an ancient way of fishing with centuries of history. It has a cruel aspect I have to say, but it is very shocking. The technique is as follows:

The fisherman goes down the river on a small bamboo boat that he pushes with a long bamboo stick. He works with his Cormorants. Then, the man grabs one of the birds and put it in the water. Splshing the water with the bamboo, he indicates the animal it can start, and it immediately dives. In less than half a minute the bird is back at the surface with a fish in its throat. And there it's where I tell you it is a bit cruel. The cormorant has a thread around the lower part of its neck so he can't swallow the catch. Then the fisherman gets the bird out of the water and makes it vomit the fish. It really is spectacular, but it is even more fascinating to see how fast and with which eficiency these birds fish!
